Mandeville Christian Church Timeline

This is the history of Mandeville Christian Church:

April 1996 - The church began meeting in a home as a Thursday evening Bible Study.

August 1996 - The first congregational meeting was held with twelve present.

September 1996 - The church was incorporated as the Mandeville Christian Church.

October 1996 - The church rented a space in a shopping mall and began meeting for Sunday evening worship.  Attendance at the time averaged in the upper teens and low twenties.

April 1997 - The church purchased a 4600 sq foot home on two acres at 3010 Highway 59.  A considerable amount of remodeling and upgrading to code was done with the help of sister churches across the state of Louisiana.

April 1998 - An open house was held on April 26, 1998., with 113 persons in attendance.  Most of these people were from various Christian Church and Christ of Christ congregations across the state of Louisiana (as well as Biloxi, MS).  These individuals, as well as others in Georgia, Alabama, Indiana, West Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Texas encouraged this work with their financial support and prayers to make this acquisition and renovation possible.  Special appreciation is expressed for the Louisiana Evangelizing Association for helping begin the work in Mandeville.  LEA paid the salary for the evangelist, which enabled the church to purchase the property.

January 1999 - Joe Major was called to minister with the congregation.  Joe is employed by Lockheed Martin.  He has a Bible College degree from Manhattan Christian College with prior schooling at Ozark Christian College and Pacific Christian College.  He led churches in Missouri and Kansas and had youth ministries in California before accepting his position in Mandeville.  His wife, Mina, is the daughter of veteran Christian minister, Don Butler, and is very active in the children's and music ministries.

January 2000 - The name if the church was officially changed to Mandeville Christian Church.
